Project title:

Eurotrainee 2

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The project aimed to provide work experience in business administration for students who want to take up various roles in the business sector. The students took up a work-experience in a variety of companies in Plymouth across a range of sectors.

Placements were matched to the particular needs of each student and his/her area of interest. The project also aimed to help the students improve their English, build confidence and gain new cultural and social experiences.

Laura undertook her 3 week work placement at a company which assesses and updates the training needs of employees in the social care sector. Her main role was to create an overview of all current qualifications and renewal dates for staff using the Microsoft office package. She also had to inform local lawyers about new social care guidelines by email. The work demanded a high level of accuracy.

Jessica undertook her 3 week work placement at an independently owned estate agency in Plymouth. She worked with the Lettings, Sales and Management team and her role included visiting letting properties to check health and safety regulations, updating the property management data system and using email and telephone calls to make appointments for customers to view properties.

From participants on their experience:

“I work in the property division of a bank at home, so it’s been interesting to see how they do things differently. I have enjoyed speaking English and using it every day -it’s great to find out the correct way to say things. Living and working in the country has been entirely different to just visiting for holidays and I’ve had an amazing experience and would recommend it.”

JESSICA, ESTATE AGENT CLERK

From participants on their experience:

“In Germany we need to work with other countries, so the experiences that I have gained will be very useful for my CV. I’ve had to use my initiative and adapt to different ways of working which has helped me to improve my self-confidence and my English skills. I enjoyed it.”

LAURA, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION CLERK

From promoters on their experience:

"Thank you for returning the learning arrangements which we have received today. Everything is wonderful. I’m glad that I’m working with you and so far everything runs so smoothly, which hasn’t been like that for a long time."
